Heficed Announces New Product Launch: IP Address Market to Become IPXO

IP Address Market, developed by Heficed, a network infrastructure solutions provider, is set for a makeover, as it will soon become part of IPXO – a brand new platform, dedicated to all things IPs.

August 6th, 2020. Heficed, specializing in internet infrastructure, cloud, and bare-metal services, announced it will be detaching its solution for streamlined IP leasing – the IP Address Market – from the company’s current product suite, and launch it under a new platform – Internet Protocol Exchange Organization, or IPXO. The new brand will provide cloud-based and fully API-driven SaaS products, easily integrated into startup businesses, as well as large telcos’ infrastructures, to help them meet their IP needs.

Heficed efforts to supply the market with IP automation solutions can be traced to their product IP Address Market, first launched in 2019, and, at the time, it was the only global self-service IP management platform on the market. Now, the company feels that the concept of IP leasing has outgrown its current position as part of Heficed’s framework, therefore will continue to grow and improve as a separate business entity. The full switch will be made at the beginning of 2021.

The company’s decision to move the IP Address Market to IPXO will put Heficed on the fast track to becoming a leading trendsetter in the IP lease industry. “We want to better acquaint the network community with the concept of IP leasing and emphasize its strengths as a prominent and secure solution for SMEs, as well as larger enterprises“, stated Vincentas Grinius, CEO at Heficed. IPXO will be a game-changing platform, paving the way for more efficient network resource governance and traffic policing.

The IP Address Market had little room for expansion while still under the infrastructure stack. “Having the IP Address Market emerge as IPXO will enable its growth as an independent ecosystem, dedicated to the IP industry and capable of growing alongside our clients’ needs,” added Grinius. He also mentioned that the Market is widely used by its competitors, resulting in a slight conflict of interest, which played a part in encouraging the current shift.

Grinius revealed that Heficed is currently in talks with a few potential internet architects with the purpose of assembling a well-suited team to put in charge of building and iterating the new product roadmap, supporting one of the main goals of the company – to contribute to sustainable internet governance. In the meantime, Heficed will continue to focus on infrastructure and cloud, as well as IP transit and bare-metal solutions.

Christian Dawson, currently the Executive Director and Co‐founder of the i2Coalition, has highlighted the subject of IP leasing as one of the key aspects when it comes to making sure there are sufficient IPv4 allocations available to “people trying to do good things” and to push the Internet forward.

“Digital economies around the world are completely driven by what it is we do in the infrastructure market, and it needs IPv4 space in order to help people enable their dreams,” stated Mr. Dawson. “With the pandemic going around the globe, we are seeing people digitize faster than ever. They are coming out with creative solutions, and the idea that we would limit this progress because there is no IPv4 space to get these things done is crazy. Making sure we solve for these constraints is essential, especially at the small business level,” he added.

Unregulated subleasing in an open market exists, however it leads to a ton of problems, such as excessive price gouging and lack of methods to deal with abuse. “It is happening in such a way that some situations are detrimental to the health of the internet’s ecosystem,” Mr. Dawson noted. Therefore, having a structured platform with the right safeguards in place could enable the industry to move forward towards sustainable leasing, eliminating the need for the rogue market.

Until 2021, Heficed plans to scale the IP Address Market, soon to be IPXO, through large enterprises and major ISPs. In addition, the company will continue to collaborate with RIRs to come up with novel solutions to enhance industry transparency.
