“Taken together, these areas provide an overall measure of an organization’s cyber resilience — its ability to successfully navigate a cyber event; apply a range of planning, assessment, prevention, mitigation, and response capabilities to manage it; and return to normal operations with minimal downtime or losses,” researchers wrote.

At the same time, confidence in three critical areas of cyber resilience declined: 18 percent of respondents said they had no confidence in understanding and assessing cyber risks, up from 9 percent in 2017. Nineteen percent of leaders had no confidence in preventing cyber threats, up from 12 percent.

The report showed that cyber risk has remained a top organizational priority for the last two years, with 79 percent of respondents ranking cyber risk as a top five concern for their enterprise up from 62 percent in 2017. Cyber risks outrank all other business risks by 20 percent, with 59 percent of respondents listing economic uncertainty as one of the top five risks.

Researchers surveyed business leaders from a wide range of countries and industries, including the US healthcare sector to better understand how cyber risk perceptions and risk management have changed throughout the year.
