AIAA and the Aviation Information Sharing and Analysis Center (A-ISAC) Enter Cooperative Agreement

AIAA Executive Director Applauds Commitment to Department of Defense

December 16, 2020 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Aviation Information Sharing and Analysis Center (A-ISAC) have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) enabling the two organizations to collaborate on aerospace and aviation cybersecurity endeavors. This agreement demonstrates the organizations’ shared objective of building cyber resiliency and maintaining a safer and more secure aerospace and aviation ecosystem.

The organizations will collaborate on learning activities to better prepare the aerospace and aviation cybersecurity workforce. Publications and forum content will serve to raise awareness of cyber risks, including best practices and lessons learned; threat actors; Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs); and more.

“AIAA looks forward to collaborating with the Aviation ISAC to solidify and expand sound cybersecurity practices within the aerospace community. The activities of their global cybersecurity consortium will help AIAA members further entrench cybersecurity best practices into their aerospace research, development, manufacturing, and operations,” said Dan Dumbacher, AIAA Executive Director.

Jeff Troy, A-ISAC President, commented, “Since 2014, the Aviation ISAC has been on the front lines of aviation and aerospace cyber defense and information sharing. We are pleased to partner with AIAA to share information that will help its members address today’s challenges and reduce future risk. AIAA’s roots in the education and R & D communities will further entrench cybersecurity best practices into the aerospace and aviation environments.”

All activities between the associations will be conducted with the overarching goal of ensuring a safer and more secure aerospace and aviation infrastructure. Trusted, collaborative relationships are crucial to protecting critical infrastructures and building resiliency. With a rapid increase in cyber attacks ranging from ransomware to fraud and impersonations, it is vital for organizations to share knowledge that will protect critical infrastructures.

Dumbacher concluded, “Digital technology has made aerospace safer, smarter, and more connected than ever. We must now establish cybersecurity as a priority on par with safety. We look forward to working with the Aviation ISAC to expand cybersecurity awareness in the aerospace community.”
