New Hakai IoT botnet takes aim at D-Link, Huawei, and Realtek routers | ZDNet
Security researchers have spotted a new strain of IoT malware that has been growing in sophistication and silently infecting more and more devices online.
Sean Newman, Director Product Management, Corero Network Security:
“It’s possibly no coincidence that, within a matter of weeks of the alleged creator of last year’s infamous Satori botnet being indicted, its likely successor, Hakai, appears to be ramping up. With Hakai now gaining exploits for some of the same IoT devices previously the domain of Satori, it gives the sense that the Hakai authors now feel in a position to also claim those devices for their nefarious botnet activities. With large-scale DDoS attacks having gone somewhat quiet over the past few months, we could be in for a storm. With that in mind, organizations which value their online availability should ensure they have the latest generation of real-time volumetric DDoS protection in place.”
